Woke up feeling slightly anxious today

Options

Im feeling abit anxious today, ive got a phone meeting today with CCCS as me and my partners circumstances have changed and we can now afford to go on a DMP. Ive posted my SOA a while back now and we ended up in this mess when my partner came out of work earlier this year... Well hes now finally found a more secure job however he is self employed which means this can change at any time obviously but whats worrying me also is the change in his wage from week to week. The past 4 weeks this is what hes took home after tax and NI,

Week 1 £410

Week 2 £163

Week 3 £170

Week 4 £369

So im not sure how this will work with a DMP, because as you can see it changes from week to week, hes a self employed builder. so his wage is dependant on a number of factors. weather etc, it might have 4 weeks of £170 1 month but then 4 weeks of £410 another... or mixed ...

How can they base a DMP on this, when we contacted the CCCS he decided to find an employed job however this pays alot less as he has no qualifications etc and also he works with his dad and brothers, this is an extra strain because if he leaves they may loose there job as the company they are building for require a gang of 4 not 3... oh dear what a mess im sat here worrying that they may not be able to help with our circumstances.

sorry to ramble...

  • don't be worried hunny, it'll only add to the stress you feel.

i don't have any knowledge of dmp's so i'm afraid i'm only here to offer support rather than advice.

good on your hubby for getting back to work, regardless of the unsteady nature of his wages at least there is more coming into the bank each week.

good luck with the phone call, and remember those people are there to help you if they can not make you feel bad if they can't.

I can see what you are saying hun but you are doing the right thing by contacting CCCS. They will most likley have experience of this type of income with someone else so they will have a few suggestions. Possibly work it on an average.

Anyway, take a few deep breaths and let the experts worry about it. You are both doing the right thing by increasing your income and sorting things out. It will be fine.

Do come back and tell us how it all went. Will be thinking of you xx

  • thanks lynsayjane and moozie,

im feeling grotty as well, off work sick today, ive got a terrible cold.. arrrrrchoooooo lol..

im sure it will be ok i just dont wanna pay a dmp based on the higher ammount when winter is creeping up on us and with that his wage creeps down. I will have to wait and see, my biggest nightmare is them telling me they cant help... dont fancy dealing with all these creditors alone.
  • Hiya

Don't panic. This won't help at all. I have no experience of the CCCS but have heard some very positive things. I am sure that they will be able to provide you with the info that you need and rest assured, your partner will not be the only person who's wages vary week to week.

With regards to the family business thing, it may cause friction and upset but sorting your financial worries and concerns has to take priority for your own health and wellbeing

    Good luck Petal

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

    Thanks

I see what your saying, its very true and we have sat and discussed this over and over again, all his family are in the same situation as us after a bad year, just seems wrong to be so selfish to loose their jobs for them when atm they are earning. once this job finishes though he is looking for another job and the others can find a job together excluding my oh. just dont know if financially it would be worth while doing when he can earn more building. there is different ways to look at it.... its something we will defo look into further once this jobs finished.

    Hi,

Good luck with the phone call today, they must be used to self-employed people with variable incomes, so they may suggest a minimum payment per month plus a percentage of any additional income (complete guess here though, as I've never dealt with them!)

If he did decide to take employment, then his family would cope as he'd give them notice and they'd be able to find someone else. At the end of the day you can only take responsibility for yourselves, although I know this is hard when it comes to family. Having said that, as employed work would probably be lower paid, it's probably not worth it anyway!

    Good luck!

  • Could they not recruit a 4th guy? Or work as a 3 man operation?

I know this is going to worry you and your OH but you really do have to concentrate on yourselves.

You say that they have had a bad time recently, perhaps they will be more understanding than you think and maybe thinking the very same thing. You never know

Ive just got off the phone from the CCCS and it wasnt so bad at all, infact im feeling very happy to have a debt free date... It turns out to not be a problem at all RE my partners differences in pay. we have based it on an average and working with that for now.

Because he earns less in winter and more in summer we are having 6 monthly reviews so we can pay more in summer months.

Its going to take a max 9 years, but takin in to consideration summer higher payments more like 5-6 years.... :j :j :j

I know its going to be a hard long slog but im ready for the challenge i want it paid for by November 2011... such along time away!!

do remember to put money aside in the 'good' weeks so you have some money to spend in the bad weeks....i know is obvious but its very easy to spend a lot when you have money in your pocket.
