Phoned Bavarian Garages in Belfast to get a part for my car - £500 plus 8 hours labour at £78 per hour plus vat = £733 - Total £1233. Oil Service - quoted £220 plus vat = £258.50
Phoned Prentices in Portadown - part same price but said it wouldn't cost any more than £150 to fit (incl. vat). Oil service - £200 (incl. vat).
Guess where I'll be going.
Absolutely disgusted re discrepancy in labour costs.

A good independent garage will be much cheaper on labour rates than a BMW official workshop.

hummm.. have you tried searching for a car breakers with an instrument cluster?
it might be possible to find a second hand set, and you can get the mileage reset from someone like digital correction services, advertised in the back of autotrader0 -
Try this breaker 'Traynors of Loughgall' Co Tyrone.
Large selection of modern car parts0 -
Already tried the breakers. Traynors have none at the minute but think I will keep checking with them as they told me it would be £120.
Thanks for the digital correction services tip - will try them when I get sorted.sufferinsnickerinrickrastadley0 -
try this site
http://www.findapart.co.uk/
you fill in the information, and they contact you if they can get the part supplied0 -

i had my instrument cluster fail on my C36 AMG Mercedes - a quite rare car with no mission of getting an instrument cluster off anyone other than the main dealer, however i located BBA-Reman - https://www.bba-reman.co.uk who will refurbish your own cluster. mine was circa £500 from the dealers for a new unit, but i got mine refurbished with BBA Reman for £200. Their phone number is on their site if you want to ring them first.
I posted mine next day special delivery, they had it 48hours then they posted it back all sorted next day special delivery...
Plus there is then no requirement to have the unit 'programmed in' as its still the proper unit for your car.0 -

Also, traynors will do a 7 day warranty meaning you can take it back if it doesn't work0
