Don't worry guys, it was a scam.
I logged in on Friday at 4pm but the sales page didn't come up then the site crashed. After trying for half an hour, it finally got to the sales page where it said all the ipads had been sold.
Think it was a scam to get people to register and 'buy' the other sales.0 -

I think that people are a bit quick on this site to call things 'scams' - more likely it was just a marketing exercise, used as a loss-leader to give the website exposure. If they had a stock of, say 100 iPads, and lost £100 on each of them then this exercise cost them £10k. But they might have increased their database of subscribers by 50,000 people - so the lifetime value of the offer could well be worth over £10k to them. I had certainly never heard of them before, so it worked in terms of brand awareness for me.0 -

Agreed. The fact that their site was crashing illustrates how popular the offer was. This is the beauty of the internet and sites like MSE. They get a great deal for us and those lucky enough to have bagged one of these have got a piece of kit for half price. Please don't call everything a scam or companies will stop doing these offers; to the detriment of us all.

Should easily be confirmed either way, if any mse members can confirm the purchase and receipt of an ipad at 50% off?
Surely one of the people that viewed this thread will have managed to get one if it wasn't a scam, 8,841 views.....
On the other hand, they may have had only 10 ipads at this price, and it was just a database building exercise as mentioned.0 -

If that had 10 does that make it a 'scam'? Maybe I'm on my soapbox a bit here, but 'scam' is a pretty strong word, maybe even defamatory. I'm not referring to you but surely people should go into this with their eyes open, seeing it for what it is, instead of trying to get on the site and then crying "scam" as soon as they don't get their own way?0 -
Ive never heard of this company before but joined up when i read about the ipad offer. Unfortunately by the time i joined up they had sold them all. I was reading the facebook page and everyone seemed pretty annoyed, calling it a scam etc. I took part in the iphone 4 offer that another company did a while ago and i actually did manage to get one. During that offer everyone who didnt get one was calling it a scam, saying that no one will actually get one and if they have got one they should post a message on facebook to prove its not a scam. Yet when i posted that i got one on the facebook page i had a bunch of horrible messages accusing me of working for the company, calling me a liar and worse.
So i for one believe that this company probably did have some ipads for sale (even if it was just say 10). But the problem is that no one believes them and i think these kinds of offers (although im v grateful for the iphone4 one) are not great for a company to run as they always seems to backfire and they might have increased their database but i bet the majority of those will never use their company as they feel like they are being scammed.0 -

I was just trying to give a fair view.
As I said with the views on this thread stand at around 9,000, surely at least one of those people will be able to confirm if they were able to purchase an ipad at this discounted price?
Personally I don't take such offence to the word "scam", maybe it is a little harsh, maybe not. Maybe misled, deceived.... would be better? Maybe the people were just naive to believe the company had a load of ipads in stock?
If people were led to believe they could purchase an ipad at 50% discount, but none were available, and it was purely a database building exercise, then yes it is a scam.
If a company has limited stock of an item, they usually give details of this when they launch such promotions, ie 100 Apple ipads at 50%.
A lot of people will have wasted time signing up to the website etc. in the belief they could get an ipad, but in all reality there may have been no chance of them ever getting one.
I didn't see this promotion until after it had apparently finished, but I would be interested in seeing if anybody actually managed to get an ipad from them.0 -
Are there any other good offers that go on this website?
I'm not registering to play their game!0 -

Some really good points here. I think it is a bit of a sad state of affairs when companies can't run offers for fear of being labelled as 'scam-artists'. The fact that you went on the Facebook page and then got abuse doesn't surprise me - I have defended companies on here doing giveaways only to be told the same thing. It seems that these days it's so fashionable to criticise that any defence of a company automatically labels you as working for them0 -

I completely take your point and agree with what you are saying whole-heartedly. I guess I'm just frustrated that, like the last poster says, as soon as you defend someone you work for them, or as soon as someone doesn't win they cry 'scam'.
I remember the hotel room giveaway when it first started and the site going down. People were up in arms and some of the posts that were put on here would be enough to put a company off ever running a deal like that again. They've run it successfully since and I'm thankful that they didn't listen to all the people screaming 'fix' or 'scam' as I've managed to get a room in the past for £1 and so have benefitted
Anyway, rant over - like you say, would be good to hear from anyone who won one of the iPads. Unless of course it was all a scam :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0
