From a gardening website:
There are some weird and wonderful methods of trying to deter cats from gardens. One method is to fill cordial bottles with water and place around your garden. When the large tom cat comes into your garden it sees it reflection in the bottles and scarpers.
The high-tech method is to buy a 'sonic cat repellent machine' which can either be plugged into mains or battery operated and, when the cats go anywhere near the machine it gives off a very high frequency sound which scares the cats away. There are also aromatic plant oil granules - which you scatter around your garden soil, and the pungent smell given out from granules is reputed to keep cats at bay. Renardine is another very popular product and contains a mixture of animal waste materials - it comes in a liquid form - soak in rags and place around the garden, and this again gives out a very pungent animal smell which deters cats.

My moms got one of those sonic cat things from B&Q for 30 quid it's green quite small 7 sticks in the grass & humans can't hear it. She recons it works very well as her neighbour has lots of cats but my mom likes birds and the sonic thing stops the cats mixing with the birds & causing chaos!
I've never seen any other method that works apart from spraying them with water but you'll probably find that they only stay away when your standing there with your water pistol!
haha good luck,
maybe your neighbour would go halves with you on a sonic thingy if you talk to them?

You could try sticking tinfoil to the top of the fence, as cats don't like walking on that and it's cheap.
Why don't you talk to the neighbours about the problem? I have 4 cats and had a cat run built (that takes up half the garden) and one of my neighbours was thrilled because they'd had problems with cats before.0 -
My dad used to put orange peel around the edges of the garden, cats don't like the smell so tend to stay away!0

we've bought my kids water pistols ...they aim and fire at em everytime one is in the garden !!0

dont use grease......when the cat goes in it will get walked all over her carpets leaving an angry neighbour.
Water pistols or a good deterrent is a cat or dog of your own.0 -

worto.
I had of these and it worked to start with, but then they seemed to get wise to it, and kinda walked around the edges. I could still hear itbut it wasnt stopping them.
There are loads of weird smelling crystals and things that you can put down to. But then you wont want to use the garden yourself as it smell so much:rotfl: :rotfl:
You need a new neighbour, to build an attractive pond and put some fish in it. They always seem to attrack the cats.Amazon Sellers Club Member Number 52

I have the opposite problem - how to keep my cats IN my garden! One solution that has worked quite well is to buy a length of round plastic guttering and nail it to the top of a fence. It's too slippery for them to get a grip and overhangs slightly, creating a "baffle". The problem is that cats are so good at learning new ways to get around obstacles, it's almost impossible to find a totally effective way of containing them."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
