Credit Card Debt (Roxburghe Related)

Hello,

On or around the start of August i received a call to my Work Number from a firm called Roxburghe. I don't know how they got my number, but they did. I was unavailable at the time so they left a message.

I phoned them back and spoke to them. They told me they were trying to recover a debt from a Barclaycard account. Off the top of my head i couldnt remember anything about a Barclaycard.

I requested they send me out a copy of my original CC agreement. In that time i applied for a copy of my Credit Record. There was nothing on there for Barclaycard. I waited and waited for it to turn up. It eventually landed on my doormat yesterday:(

On checking my CR, the only thing that could be the Barclaycard is a debt which says is owed to HFO. However the start date of the agreement on my CR does not match with that of the signed agreement i have infront of me for Barclaycard. Infact its a month out.

At that time i was young and naive and taking credit from all avenues as many others were.

Anyway the shocker is, when i originally spoke to Roxburghe, the debt now stands at £1100. My actual Credit limit on the card was £250, so about £900 has been incurred in charges as explained to me on the phone.

Ive never recieved any letters informing me of charges, even though my postal address has stayed the same, if it is the correct entry on my credit record the account actually defaulted @ £650 or there abouts.

Is there anything i can do here;

a) To bring the charges down of the actual
b) To dispute the debt as the date on my credit file is different to that of the signed agreement

Or will i have to bite the bullet and make the payments.

They are really sneaky Roxburghe aswell, i gave them my mobile number as a point of contact as im not allowed to take personal calls in work and each time they phone, they phone from a different number (mobile number)

Any help, information, guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Depending on when you last paid, the debt could be statute barred (i.e. they have run out of time to recover). Read the above factsheet for information.
    Defaults are normally applied within 6 months of you stopping payment, so sometime in 2004?
    BUT, I am not sure if your telephone conversation would count as acknowledging the debt - so the time between the default month-6 and Aug 2010 is what you need to check.
