Does anyone know of a way that you can do a search to find out who owns a telephone number?

You can do a reverse lookup (at a cost) on 192.com i think. I know you can do it in the USA, not so sure of the UK though.0

Saw a link on here the other day for this - will try to find it and let you know.
Thought I had added it to my favourites - but cant find it !!!
FOUND IT
http://www.icstis.org.uk/ - for premium numbers only I think - but I have entered a normal telphone number and gives you a vague idea of location etc - try it to see if it does what you want0 -
In the UK, it’s illegal to provide an inverted (“reversed”) telephone directory, or to provide a reverse lookup service. It is completely legal to do these things in the US. US websites used to provide reverse lookup services on UK numbers. BT started encrypting the CD-ROM version of their directory to stop this. Whether it’s easy to decrypt is a moot point, as it’s illegal to decrypt it in the US.
Also, that only gets you BT numbers. Cable, VoIP, etc. numbers aren’t going to be in any central directory. If it’s a number that belongs to a company, there’s a chance it’ll appear in a website you can find by googling. Try it with various formats: "0xxxx xxxxxxx", "0xxxx xxx xxxx". (I use the verb to google simply because Google doesn’t want me to use it.)

Does this help.
CodeLook has two main functions, looking up partial telephone numbers to find the locality and tariff band, and looking up localities to find the code. It effectively replaces the BT Phone Book Companion that serves the same purpose in book format (but does not use the same source material!)
