Can anyone recommend a debt management agency/company?

Hi Folks,

I really do need help with managing my multitude of various debts.

I avoid opening the letters but when I do I just see crazy and unreasonable charges being added.

I really do bury my head in the sand as the whole thing is overwhelming.

I have 3 (maybe 4?) CCJs and then other debts of around 25K but from all different sources.

I went to the CAB 6 about 8 months ago and still havent had an appointment.

I know it may cost but can anyone recommend a reputable company or any other advice?

Would really appreciate it. Feeling :(x1000
Thanks
Michelle

Hello. I'm no expert in this field but didnt want to read and run. Well done for posting.

Put put up a SOA (see thread) and see if people can help you. E.g. look at APR's on CC's etc. Make suggestions as to how you can cut back.

Im sure someone will come along that has knoweldge of companies.
    Egg April 10 £6600 Jan £4678 now £0
    Santander Jan £3414 April £3338
    Virgin April£2643 Aug £3155 April £7109
    Barclaycard Oct £1476 April £1287
So far paid off 17% of c.c. debt:T
  • Thanks isy for your reply. Good idea about the SOA, absolutley scares me to death though! But I guess its time to bring my head out of the sand/face my fears etc!

The general knowledge about such companies is avoid avoid avoid. They will keep you in debt longer. Martin Lewis recommends you go to the CAB, the CCCS, National Debtline or Christians Against Poverty. These are all charities. If you are looking for help and support in dealing with your debts I would suggest your next call is to CCCS.

See Martin Lewis's article here Debt Problems: What to do & where to get help
    See CCCS website here https://www.cccs.co.uk
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(
  • Hi Hannah,

Thankyou so much. I took your advice and have just called the CCCS (caught them just before they closed) and spoke to an absolutley lovely lady called Lisa. She took some details, the balls rolling. I have to fill in the form that they are going to send and then I will have an appointment with an adviser.

I really cant say thankyou enough.

    Or the phone calls...

"Hi Mrs Soandso, I am calling to make sure you are aware of a little-known peice of government legistalition which can reduce your debts by up to £8,000..."
"And I wanna let you know about another peice of government legistlation called The Data Protection Act 1998 you F***WITS. NOW GET MY NUMBER OFF YOUR F***ING AUTODIALLER!!!"

Must be working coz I get less and less calls over time, but if it does or doesn't... Ahhhh I do so enjoy getting it off my chest. :A :D
