Over £400 a month in the first three months of being in a new property thats very good so keep up the good work.
I do have the help and support of the other half and she got us into offset mortgages and YBS which have been great with the OP,s and MF journey.
Because we have reduced the term and overpaid for the last 5 years we are in a better position to send both boys to uni next year.
Being told by your lender that if you want a 6 months mortgage holiday thats fine (overpayments!) and saving over £50K in interest is not bad after only 5 years.
    Keep up the good work
  • Thanks guys for the support!

Making that first OP has incentivised me to keep on saving - I felt as good phoning the bank and making that payment as if I'd gone and bought a treat at the shops.

    All the best

  • Well done to you - it is a great feeling to be taking control rather than being sucked into the media driven world of overspending 'because you're worth it.' Bah humbug - it's only good for the sellers and advertisers. Excuse the grumpiness but an afternoon in Toys R Us watching hard pressed people paying inflated prices for plastic tat has brought me down a little!

    Keep up the good work!
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
  • I'm saving, saving , saving.....

This website is so useful for information! I've just re-negotiated my mobile phone contract. My contract had expired and the plan I was on was £30 / month (inc VAT). I like my phone so have switched to a sim only plan for £15 / month inc VAT. £180 / year saved - excellent :)

But on a downside - my car has got a serious 'scuff' on the bumper - there is no dent, but the paint is off to the metal and I have to take it to the manufacturer next month for it's bodywork inspection. I suppose they'll either quote a huge amount to repair or the warrentee will be forfeited. I dont know how it happened; cleaned the car and there is was :(. I've taken it to a few places and been quoted +£150 to repair! I was tempted to do it myself, but being no expert on bodywork, I'll probably have the warentee forfeited because it'd be an amateur repair. I dont know what to do for the best; I do 20K miles / year, so there will be bound to be chips etc as time goes on. I think I'll just take the car to the dealer as planned next month and see what they say... I'm not expecting good news somehow.

Oh well, as the post says, one step forwards, one step back. The saving is going well though, and who knows, I may even have saved enough next month to make another mortgage capital repayment... now that's a cheerful thought :)

    Wishing everyone well,

  • Hi guys,

excellent news about the car! The scuff is on the bumper... so it doesn't affect the warantee and it's passed the body inspection. Phew.... I am SO relieved!

And I've just made another overpayment of £1000 which has reduced the mortgage term by another 6 months. I'm really pleased :j. I think it'll be a while before I can make another overpayment as I've got a few other things in the coming months that the money will need to go to. Hopefully I'll be able to make a third overpayment before September which will mean my first yr goal (see signature) will have been achieved.

All the best and wishing you all steady saving :D

    Hi Newlife,

Doing well and good to see you have the determination and drive to do it again. Must have been tough after the first time.

Congrats on another OP, very inspiring.

    All the best
