MSE News: 1.5 million fail to claim £3,000 a year pension credit

    Savings credit has nothing to do with savings its about weekly qualifying income.
  • Before claiming this benefit please be aware that if you claim Housing Benefit and council tax relief you most likely will be worse off. I claimed I did not have savings but had a small employment pension (under £50 per month) which topped up my state pension, I discovered on receiving pension credit my housing/council benefit was reduced making me WORSE off. I contacted my M.P. who spoke with minister of pensions but this was correct. From this I conclude unless you own your own home dont claim, I cancelled mine. This is different from the pension guarantee credit. which is worth claiming as Martin said it brings up income of those who only have basic state pension.
