Savings credit has nothing to do with savings its about weekly qualifying income.

Before claiming this benefit please be aware that if you claim Housing Benefit and council tax relief you most likely will be worse off. I claimed I did not have savings but had a small employment pension (under £50 per month) which topped up my state pension, I discovered on receiving pension credit my housing/council benefit was reduced making me WORSE off. I contacted my M.P. who spoke with minister of pensions but this was correct. From this I conclude unless you own your own home dont claim, I cancelled mine. This is different from the pension guarantee credit. which is worth claiming as Martin said it brings up income of those who only have basic state pension.
