Having a wedding dress custom made

My mum and I have decided between us that as I can't find a dress I like online or in the shops we're going to have one made for me:j
I'm having a 1950's style dress but being a larger plus size I don't think there are many places that cater for us:mad:
The only thing is my mum has asked me about fabrics and colours
I have not got a clue!:o
Colour scheme is white, red and black and I wanted to have a red dress but as I'm pale skinned I think I would look washed out. Also one of my bridesmaids is having a red dress. Also with bright red hair and red shoes think it might be overkill:rotfl:
I am now thinking traditional white, with a red sash and a red petticoat but I am not sure on the fabric.
What options do I have? I know absolutely nothing about this:o
Thanks in advance:T

heya nunny
you could have a satin dress with satin sash and then a tule underskirt to make it puffy

something like this in white would be pretty with the red net skirt comming out from underneath just add a red sash under the bust
start going to fabric shops and just feeling what the materials are like when you find one you like note down its name and then discuss with the dressmaker if it will work well or not have 3-5 fabrics you can discuss
satin is always good for dresses!!!
watch lots of 50s movies and look at lots of 50s dresses any style any shape and find what you like and take them with you
google 50s fashion and look at lots of websites
good luck xxThe only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50 -
I did a search on ebay - worth looking at for style ideas

Even better talk to Linda, who is our resident dressmaker about it!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
Thanks lovelies. I am 99% certain about the style I'm going to have I'm thinking something like Greta or Marilyn from HoneyPie Boutique, but different if you get my drift.
Satin would be good, but I'm worried about the fabric "clicking" or is it just the cheaper fabric that does this?Sealed Pot Challenge Member 1216 -
