  • Elvis,

Thanks, hadn't actually thought of that, could actually work out a fair bit cheaper for me to insure both cars and just have her as named on her own car, though isn't that technically frowned upon?? I thought I read somewhere that parents were breaking the law by insuring the car they drive and just naming their children, could be wrong?!

On the blackberry front, do your packages include calls to 0845 numbers, etc.? And does the point of this mean you don't have a home phone line? If so, do you not need a home phone line to run an internet connection?

Sorry if I seem a touch naive on these issues but buying this place was my first attempt at 'flying the nest' and I'm still a bit wet behind the ears in such matters

It's not that frowned upon to do that with car insurance, just be sure to name your gal as the main driver. You will still save a packet and when you've shifted the debts and she's a bit older, you can start a no claims for her.

As to the phones, we still have a landline but we get 60GB limit broadband, free calls and line rental all for £23 from Plusnet.

Calls to 0845 (non geographical numbers) are still charged from our mobiles but we're careful to avoid the blighters. We pay £23 per month each on the 3 Internet Texter 500 plan. They still charge me for MMS message so I've stopped doing them.

I would never pay any of my hard earned money to Rupert M, Sky or his trashy band so we just have Freeview which costs nowt.

    All the best ;)

  • I would have said that your priority should be to identify where the surplus £577 is each month and get an accurate SOA. OK, trimming bits and bobs will help, but this is 25% of your monthly income!

Do you have this money left at the end of the month - if not can you go back through bank statements and find out where it disappears or can you have a spending diary where you write absolutely everything down?
  • Council tax arrears are a priority debt -as are the utility arrears as well. You can be sent to prison for non-payment of council tax (o.k extremly unlikely but this is one not to be messed with as they will also send bailiffs or even get money taken directly from your salary if needs be).

  • Further to my post on council tax arrears they are going to really want it in 4 months payments - October to January. You may be able to get them to spread it to include Feb and March as well but they will most likely push to get it paid before the end of the council tax year (they have to publish figure on how much council tax they have collected I believe). They are most unlikely to let you pay the arrears into next years as it may then result in you falling behind on next years payments and this will lead to further court costs, bailiff costs etc as well - hence why they will push you to get this cleared asap.
You might have to offer token payments to the other debts while you deal with the priority debts.
Speak to the council and see what they say.

I'm flying to Malaga next week and have purchased a return flight from Ryanair , I've seen a better timed flight with Easyjet ie. leaving at 6.50am instead of 13.25 with Ryanair .
Do I have to inform Ryanair that I wont be flying out with them but will be using the return flight ?
Does anyone know if I should anticipate any problems with Ryanair , I've never flown with them before !
Any comments would be gratefully accepted :T
