  • i think i maybe one of the 10 runners up, i had a email late last night saying

We have the pleasure in informing you that you have won one of the " 10 runner-up"
prizes in the "On-line" Oil painting competition that you entered recently. As a winner you have won the chance to own a Simon Butler oil portrait that you would like painted
of yourself, a loved one, a pet, your house, or simply that favourite photo that you always wanted to be
made into a beautiful oil painting

i hope this is right i cannot see anywhere asking for money
if it is this is just great, and will make a fantastic christmas present
  • I just got the same email again, so that's two £100 vouchers.

Sorry, I got a second email today with a new code and asked if they can be combined but they can't. (Maybe they read MSE?)

I have to admit I'm still tempted by the idea of an oil painting of a family portrait.............. Does anyone know if its done by computers or by hand?

I quite like the idea too, mpythin. It would be lovely. As far as I know they're done by hand, but I'm not sure.

    Eh up,

I got one of these too - I was really happy too as this would be the third thing I've managed to win. (got an ipod shuffle and a crate of beer and a t-shirt through this site so far ;-)

Isn't there someone you can complain to if a competition breaches its own rules? To be certain its not a freakish coincidence I suppose we should make sure more than 10 people we can acount for have won - it's not impossible all 10 second place winners came from this site - merely stageringly unlikely.

    Guy makes nice portraits though.

And for the record no I wasn't going to subject future generations to my ugly mug :p

re-counted with my brain switched on and realised we had already accumulated 11 winners of a "10 runners up" prize. So I have emailed him to ask what is happening - I dont expect a response but should one be forthcoming I will post back here. If we can prove inentional wrong doing I still can't think of anything we can do. But I would welcome suggestions ( keep them legal please ;-P )

    Hi,

Well I got a reply from him - the email is reproduced below in full.

"Well if you are the 11th person to win then we have made a mistake and you should not have been a runer-up should you ? So scrach yourself off the list, there, that sorts that out !

    Terry"

I am deeply tempted to see how much money he makes when he'd ddos'd off the net for a couple of months

The email I sent him was in no way insulting or abusive - merely asking for clarification. Is there any way to find out who ran this competition and complain to them?

Couldn't help but laugh at that reply!

To be fair you questioned it and 'Terry' sorted the problem out!!
