it wouldn't half help if the totals were added up but nevertheless
your income is 1,750
your spending is 1,058 before debt repayments
so you have 692 for debt repayments
your debts cost 478 (minimum amounts)
leaving you a surplus of 214
several questions
a. you need to find out where that 214 is going
b. if you pay all the bills, what is your OH spending his money on and how are his debts mounting up?
suggest you both start a spending diary and write down absolutely everything you spend to find out exactly whats happening.
you can't really address the debts or the spending issue until you know where all the money is going.0 -
According to my calcs you have £72.23 per week to spend on anything including food, going out, clothes etc. It is important to stop overspending at this stage by not exceeding this amount. I suggest you write this in a little book on a Monday and make a note of all you spend. This needs to be done before you apply any changes to your outgoings as you are currently overspending.
Good luck, the figures are as follows;
income weekly monthly
self 1400.00
partner 350.00
total 0.00 1750.00
403.85 divided by 4.33
403.85 total weekly income
spend weekly monthly
rent/mortgage 515.00
council tax 105.00
elec 21.00
gas 21.00
water 20.00
secured loans
TV licence 11.00
fines
mort protectiojn 67.00
phone 15.00
mob 40.00
sky 27.00
bb 5.00
insurance 22.00
loan 168.00
cc1 60.00
cc2 250.00
petrol 90.00
total 0.00 1437.00
331.62 divided by 4.33
£331.62 total weekly spend
Start= income - spend = £72.23 per week0 -
thanks very much for all your time and input everyone

i will be looking into a low/0% cc card for myself, but i doubt they will touch £12200 so that option is probably out for my OH.
i have cut my spending right down to the bare minimum. considering a couple of years ago i'd blow my entire salary and more, when we had 2 wages coming in i've done really well.
other half is depression spending due to feeling low because he's not contributing at home, and then making it worse by spending. he's not had his lightbulb moment yet.
thanks again for everyone's input.

Even if they give you 6k on a CC, then its better to have a proportion of debt on a low interest card than it all at a higher one.
In any case, if he hasnt had his LB moment, are you meaning hes still spending on it? if this is happeneing lots of low interest cards only apply to balance transfers, and if the card gets spent on then the Interest rate jumps up.
Can you tell me which broadband is a fiver a month! I must have missed that one!! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

he's not spending anymore due to having hit his credit limit. but i don't think he's really working with me yet on the acknowledment of the seriousness of the debt.
£5 broadband is through sky. if you have any sky package then you can get broadband for free, £5 or £10 a month. i appreciate that most people posting in this forum will have got rid of their sky, so that's probably why it's not been heard of
