squints and varifocals

I have had a lazy right eye since childhood. It used to be ok until I got tired and then it became very noticeable. Over the last 2 years though it is becoming a lot more obvious. It has just crossed my mind that this time period is also the amount of time that I have been wearing varifocals.

So, does anyone know whether varifocals can worsen these types of eye condition or is it just my age as usual:(? I am thinking that I may have to go back to having 2 pairs of specs.

I have the same condition, in fact the vision in my right ( the "lazy") eye is now very poor.

However I have no problem with varifocals which I've been wearing for about a year.

Oh great. Getting bunions was bad enough :rotfl:. I really was hoping that different specs might correct it a bit. I thought that as the lazy eye would be looking through a blurry area of the specs that it could be a cause of the deterioration.

I had surgery about 15 years ago and that improved it. I may see about giving that another go.

It runs down the female line in my family unfortunately. Both my mother and grandmother had it ( Mum btw also wears varifocals ok).

I managed to escape the surgery but endured that awful patching every day that was the standard treatment in the late 60s. I have no depth perception at all and although my eyes now look pretty straight if I get very tired or peer at objects close up I get double vision.

I remember the patching :rotfl:. I'm seeing double more often now when looking at things close up. My eye also aches when I'm tired now. However, the squint is more obvious when I'm looking at things at a distance which, I've been told, is quite unusual.

After years of the hated patches I had a squint surgically corrected in 1970. Fast forward a few decades and I now have cataracts in the "fixed" eye also I am on the gluacoma watch list. Because the cataracts are numerous and small they can't be removed yet. I'm hopeful that surgical techniques will advance even more. My consultant suspects that the surgery played a significant role as she was able to see scarring. On the plus side I now get free eye tests.

I have a scar on the white of my eye from that surgery . I didn't realise that it carried the risk of cataracts.

My consultant is more concerned about the risk of developing glaucoma than the cataracts. My vision in the "fixed" eye due to the numerous cataracts is now rubbish has been for over 15 years now. I couldn't say if the surgery played a part in this or not. Even though the vision is rubbish I would rather have that then develope glaucoma, although this is also treatable.
