Can someone please explain why .............

Can someone please explain why I'm still a dress size larger after having a baby 7 months ago despite the fact that I actually weigh a couple of pounds less than before I was pg ?

Before having DS I was 9st 8lbs and a easily fitted in a size 10 jeans and a 12 top.

I've worked hard to loose the 4 st:eek: I put on by munching maltesers & Ben & Jerry's and now weigh less than 9 1/2 stone but I'm still struggling to fit easily into most of my old wardrobe :(

Can anybody tell me why & how this has happened,do I have to banish my skinny jeans to the charity shop or will I eventually fit in them again.

I'm not really bothered about loosing anymore weight as such - I just want to fit into my old wardrobe ?

You have probably lost muscle tone. That is the strong underlying muscles that support the abdomen and help to hold us all in.
Sit ups would help but be careful, I found my back was weak after pregnancy.
I think I fuly got my figure back after no.1! but it was so long ago and two babies since I cant quite remember!
To be truthful, it isnt at all bad for a 50 yr. old now so ALL IS NOT LOST;)

  • Hi,

    Confusing???
I have never had a baby and my weight has always been stable so I may not be the best person to answer, however, it could just be that you're body shape has changed. No one decides where they gain or lose weight. A lot of my friends use tape measures rather than scales to monitor their weight so they can isolate certain areas of their bodies.

i second what pink said... probably your body shape has changed. my dd is 3 now and i have managed to lose some weight, i have one stone to go now, surprisingly if you look at me by the side, i look like that skinny girl i used to be, the fat i have left is all distributed evenly now and when i say i have 1 stone to go.. people think i am crazy.. but i am 1 stone overweight!

  • It might be as Arty said you've lost muscle tone. Muscle takes up alot less space than fat - so although you may weigh the same, if it's fat you've gained in exchange for the muscle, it will weigh the same but be more spread out, therefore taking up more 'space' IYSWIM.

I am about 10kg 'overweight' right now, and weigh the same as I did in my late teens when I when through some trauma and ate rubbish for a year. I may weigh the same but I take a smaller size now, compared to then as though I'm technically overweight again, I have more muscle tone this time as I'm exercising 5 days a week, so therefore have actually less fat to lose.

Personally as others have said I don't rely on the scale that much, as it can be very misleading, all it's telling you is the total weight of your body, not what is fat and what is muscle. As you tone up and develop more muscle your body shrinks and your clothes and tape measure will tell you though the scale won't always reflect all your hard work!
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

Can you not just buy skinny jeans in the next size up? You don't have to be skinny to wear them!
    Gone ... or have I?

That would be a lot quicker and easier than the gym
