declined for loan. When is best to apply for 'bad credit' CC?

Well short version.

We applied for 0% CC in June with Vigin - declined.

Over summer went over our overdrafts a few times and the bank had to pay some payments which obv we got charged for. Didnt think too much of it in respect to our credit rating (how wrong i was!)

recently applied for a Santander loan and got declined.

When should i apply for a good 'bad credit' credit card? I was thinking in the new year, having not slipped up and incurred charges with the banks between now and then. Is this a good amount of time? We are hoping to have paid off 1 of our overdrafts (£1250) by then and close the account down totally with Halifax - i presume this will help alot?

Really feel our credit rating is shot atm and want to pick this up ASAP and sort out our debts.

Advice appreciated.

Thanks
Sarah
