Child maintenance

Hello

We have just started receving maintenance off the father of my step son. This has come as a shock as he's never paid a bean in his life.

The cheques are only for £6 a week and i presume it's being taken out of his benefits as he is on DLA.

Do we have to inform the tax credits or anything?

Thanks

I suppose it would not harm to advise them.

I believe it won't be considered in regard to tax credits, but DUTR is right, no harm in telling them.

Suppose more importantly if you in receipt of Income Support then you need to inform them of maintenance payments, even though you will now be allowed to keep all of the maintenance paid to you. If you are working then obviously this is irrelevant
  • We're not on income support. We are on a low income and just have a little help towards housing benefit and are on the working and child tax credits.

I believe that this money for child maintenance will have no effect on the benefits you currently receive, you can inform relevant agencies anyway, but this money is not included for their purposes
