for people who are looking for work. I just got a card through the door and the ROYAL MAIL are now recruiting for christmas. Their number is 0870-2431909. Or to apply online https://www.royalmail.com/xmasjobs

I think they pay really well and they also offer shifts so it could be a wee extra earner for those of us in jobs too

Hope this is of some help

I've done this! Indoor mail sorting - might be some road work available too. The shifts are usually 6-2; 2-10; 10-6;and occassionally Saturdays.

The pay is not fab but is above minumum wage, and the work is quite dull, and not for those with bad backs as you need to sit/stand at a sorting frame for long stretches. But everyone is friendly, it's quick to pick up, and the staff canteen is cheap! You can also listen to your walkman most of the time.

Also a good way to get a foot in the door if looking for permanent work as they keep a FEW on afterwards.

Does anyone know if they have an age limit?

Thanks, that'll do me - my mum worked nights in their canteen for years and I'm told that their bacon sandwiches are to die for. :D:D
I'm going to call the local sorting office, this afternoon!

My OH is a postie and I think its more than they dare do to descriminate in any way shape or form now...There is usually no age limit(just usual 65 years) on fulltime applications and with the temps they are looking for reliability so your 'more mature' status may help :D

  • loads of shops in my town are looking Christmas temps, the pay for most is OK & you often get staff discounts & sometimes even holiday pay!!! usually if you are upfront & organised about your other commitments (F/T job, kids etc) from the start they will give you shifts....most just advertise in their windows so I usually just go round one evening armed with a bunch of CV's or get all the forms & fill them in that night....just a wee reminder that now is the time to be looking, not mid November!! Good Luck everyone in your job searching!!
  • Yes M&S recruit for christmas too. My mum took a temp xmas job with them for 6 weeks when my sister and I were little and 25 years later she was still there
