Be warned - expect lots of Spam when signing up for emusic

Hi all,

First ever post (in response to something I saw in this week's mail out) so please accept my apologies if this is a known issue.

I have my own e-mail domain and can create indiviudal addresses for every site I use. For example, all Money Saving weekly e-mails are delivered to moneysavingexpert at mydomain dot org dot uk. The purpose of this is to see if my details are ever passed on.

Please be warned that signing up for emusic *will* result in masses of Spam. I get more junk mail delivered to emusic at mydomain dot org dot uk than any other address.

• Who provide information, products, goods or services that you have requested via the Site;
• When we have retained companies to work with or on behalf of eMusic to facilitate our operations and the products and services we provide to you (such companies are contractually obligated to maintain the confidentiality of your information and are restricted from using the same in any way not expressly authorized by eMusic);
• When you use co-branded services - in which case you are giving us permission to pass any information you provide in the context of our co-branding and marketing relationship, back to our co-branding partner. Their use of your information is subject to their own privacy policies;

If you do not so opt out and we share your personally identifiable information (but not emails) with such trusted third parties, their use of such information is subject to their own privacy policies. We do not rent or sell subscriber email addresses to third parties;
• Who are users of the Site solely to the extent you choose to make such information publicly available by posting it to your profile in connection with our "eMusic Neighbors" program or via our message boards, content reviews & ratings, or other eMusic community services; and/or
• In the event of a bankruptcy, or a merger, acquisition, joint venture or other business combination involving us.

I didn't read the small print: who does? And by not opting out, this e-mail address has been harvested by every Spam bot around, it would seem.

OP, Just wondered how long it was before you started getting the junk mail? Have created an emusic account, it has its own email, but not had any junk as yet. Its been a week so far- how long did it take before you got anything? I did look for boxes to click/unclick but couldn't find any!

Can't say I got any extra junk mail as a result of signing up with e-music. Can't remember now whether there were any check boxes, though.

Agree with the OP entirely, I have a similar method to him and the emusic address does get spam (that now gets refused by the server). Of course NOBODY else knows this address even exists, and even if it has been passed on to other agencies, it has ended up in the hands of genuine spammers rather than the usual bunch of organisations that send special offers that you apparently opted into. This is also not the first time I've read this online.

I've never received any spam as a result of signing up to emusic, and I closed my account some time ago.
