Worried about council tenancy and rent arrears in br

Options
Hi, just wondered if anyone had any experience of having rent arrears to a council property in bankruptcy? I'm really worried about my tenancy, I'm definately going to call my local cab in the morning, am also considering fessing up to the council, tho not sure if wise....
Basically I have quite large arrears, no way I could clear them before br at end of month. Do I have to include these in the br? Could I try to continue the arrangement to clear the arrears? Sorry this is jumbled!

  • H Chilli_em,

Rent arrears can be included but are down to the discretion of the landlord as to whether they are included.

If there is a possibility that you could lose your home then the OR will allow an arrangement to clear arrears in your SOA.

When you go to the CAB, ask them to negociate a repayment plan with the council prior to going BR then you can put those figures into your SOA. IF you already have a repayment plan in place that you can afford & that the couincil are happy with, then just carry on. But ask CAB to have a look & check figures.

Council and HA are usually ok, providing that you keep in touch with them.

    Good luck with CAB tomorrow.
