Winter Coat

Someone posted a link to this coat the other day:

http://www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Coats-Jackets/Coats/WE280/Womens-Rainyday-Jacket.html?NavGroupID=2

and I fell in love, unfortunately it costs a few more pennies than I have :(

I am 5'4'', a size 16, I don't drive so I walk miles everyday doing the school run and other things. As much as I will probably look ridiculous wearing a hood I still want one because it will keep me dry.
Does anyone know of any fab alternatives to an amazing winter coat? Last winter I made the mistake of buying a black coat that I liked but it had a belt at the waist and it made me look twice the size that I am.

Sorry to disappoing but its only a rainy day jacket, it wouldnt do for a winter coat at all, it will only be thin.

And I mean no offence but i think the pattern would be a bit loud for a lady who is a size 16.
But thats just my opinion maybe biased because I dont like it anyway.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

they say a pattern actually helps detract from making you look heavy

i would ignore this comment and says its more personal taste

i am not lover of the pattern but as a size 16 lady myself i did notice that there were some lovely jackets in dorothy perkins that were about 40 quidish

Youre probably right and it is personal taste, but only my opinion
and like I said, no offence was intended and i hope none taken.

    Regards
    Annie.

Have you tried an outdoor/camping type shop? I have a lovely Trespass coat that comes out every winter, it's a Parka style but white and is waterproof and windproof! It is so warm I could walk for miles in the snow wearing it! :D Boden only cater for tall ladies anyway so it would be completely out of proportion for you;) (I'm your height and am swamped by Boden clothes...even the arm length!). :)

The description says it has a fleecy lining and the first review describes it as "snuggly".

Personally, if you like the print and wear it well, I don't think what size you are matters!

The first few reviews are from 5'4" ladies and they all say it is a good fit!!

OP I like it too. It would brighten up many a dreary winter morning! It is a bit pricy, but sometimes if I really love something I think it's worth a splurge, especially if you can justify it on a cost per wear basis....and you'd obviously get loads of use from it! Birthday coming up by any chance?? Hope you get some other suggestions if it's totally out of budget!

Wow thank you all for the quick replies! I should have said that I don't want a thick heavy coat, I want something to protect me from the rain. It doesn't seem to matter how cold it is, once I start walking I get really hot!

I am going to have a look around town and then if I can't find one that I like I may just have to save for the Boden one. The size 16/pattern issue didn't even cross my mind, i'm not a 'big' size 16 if that makes sense, I just have big child bearing hips :rotfl:

    Thanks again

I say treat yourself to that one, it's a good quality coat and should last you years. If you bought a £40 coat it would end up costing you more money later on as you may have to replace it the very next year.

Maybe you could have it as an early Christmas pressie? :)
