Have read the article, and will be watching the program.
It is, definitely, time that these illegal practices were brought out into the open. Unfortunately, any such exposure will only show the tip of the iceberg. I can not beleive the comments, from the bailiff companies concerned, as if they stamp out these practices, their income will drop significantly. Even sacking a rogue bailiff does not mean that that person, and their practices, won't simply turn up with another company, or as a DCA.
There is a lot of information available which explains your rights in dealing with bailiffs, and I would strongly reccomend that ANYONE who thinks that they may receive a visit from a bailiff should research their rights.
Even better would be a legal requirement for ANY bailiff to have to explain these rights to a 'debtor' before having any authority to enter property or to levy goods.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

  • No real surprise

The company can point to their training but the old lags tell the new boys, the truth

OMG - that's absolutely horrendous! Perhaps there needs to be something when a debts passed to a bailiff that the person is informed of this, including a breakdown of the law!

As for the climbing a ladder to scare someone - if this is still technically allowed under law it needs to be changed!

That is a really good idea, but I can't see it working though - if they won't act within the law when it comes to simple things like not stealing the person's goods, then are they likely to actually go through the whole process of telling the person what their rights are?

It's a nice mental image of two thick set thugs standing on someone's doorstep trying to read out the words though...:rotfl:

A great plan with only 2 minor set backs

    1) You would have to teach them to read first
    2) You would have to confiscate all their bananas to keep their mouths free.

  • But if it was made the law could it be enforced in a similar way to claiming back bank charges

No proof that the person was read their rights, then the person can claim within six years of the event

I notice that there seems to be a lack of input on this thread from our resident T_Roll ;)

it's this sort of behaviour, coupled with the lies and deceits that DCAs glibly tell debtors daily that gets them the reputation they now have, and so richly and rightly deserve. that is, to spell it out - knuckle-dragging-subhuman-scum who rank lower than dog-$#!t.
