Advice: Joint mortgage/loan and bankruptcy

The situation is, me and my partner split 2 and a half years ago. I haven't set foot in the property since however i am still paying for the joint loan we had together which is £150 per month. My x is currently living in the property with his new partner and paying our joint mortgage of £250 a month, or so i thought!

We have been in recent contact and i've contacted our mortgage company on seeing if i could have his name removed, to which they advised me that the mortgage is in arrears and will not even look at our account for 12 months. Upon advising my x partner about this his response was that he wants to send the mortgage back to the mortgage company! I am reluctant to do this but he is adamant.

How do i stand if he does declare himself bankrupt? Will the debt immediatly come to me? Will it affect my financial situation i.e. credit report.

The property is in the market, but we've had no views or interest at all, i am at a bit of a loss.

Any advise would be much appreciated

Amy
