Bristol gyms

Local council has some facilities.
There's also one in St Pauls, which has some days for women only I think, which I think is quite cheap but I haven't used it.
Whereabouts would be convenient for you? No way would I trek across Bristol in the rush hour to get to a cheap gym, and then trek back again afterwards.
Also what facilities do you want?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I'm in clifton at the moment, but i work in gloucester pretty much full time, and so anywhere between the m5 and town would be ok for me.
I've looked into the council gyms, but you have to join up on a monthly direct debit for ~£35/month, and so I figure if I'm paying that I might as well go for one of the 'nicer' places (fitness first etc). That is IF I can find a 'nicer' place that comes in around that price or less....
I know I'm eligible for discount at fitness first and nuffield health because of my company's medical insurance policy, but I'm not sure what the discount is, and what the price of those places is to begin with!0 -
I know Fitness First is (or was) cheaper than Bannatyne's (in Redland), which is about £60 per month, but Bannatyne's has a pool. If you can find a 'buddy' that goes down to about £50 per month each, and it doesn't have to be a partner, can just be a friend. Regular offers get round the joining fee.
FF would be handy for the M5! DH and I are with Bannatyne's because it 'works' for us, we can walk there from work and get there on the train, which helps because we only have one car.
I don't know what the costs are but I know David Lloyd in Southmead is very popular with a lot of my friends, and that would also be quite good going to and from work, they also have a pool.
but your next step is probably getting prices from FF and Nuffield, checking out the discounts and then seeing if there are any other 'deals' going.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks for the reply, I still haven't made my mind up about this! What I've found out so far:
Fitness first was £32/month for the 'home' membership (you just use the gym that you've signed up for) or it was £37.95/month for the full 'platinum' membership (you can use any gym in the UK, including the slightly snazzier platinum ones) - but this is only if you have BUPA membership, the platinum fee was £55.95/month otherwise. These are both 12month minimum term contracts.
Council ones are £42/month, or £420/year for the use of all the council gyms, but no minimum contract.
If anyone has any more info on other options, please let me know!0 -
