question on work availability

To improve my job prospects,I am taking an evening course hopefully leading to a job helping with numeracy (as in lose your gremlin).
I will have to do 8 hours helping an existing mentor during the course. The job center were not happy about my monday night class as I might not be available for work.Ridiculous - I could go down the pub,but I`m not supposed to try to help my job chances.
Are they likely to get stroppy over these 8 hours?. I imagine that they also will be in the evenings, but not sure on that.

As it's not something you're getting paid for just don't bother telling them - as this is an evening course it shouldn't affect you availability anyway - If it happens to be at other times, just don't answer the phone during the 8 hours - you don't have to be 'on-call' - if they do come up with something that includes that time, then worry about it.0

What you will have to do is sign somethng to say if a job came up which clashed with those hours then you'd give up the course
Or restrict your hours so they don't overlap - depending on what work you're looking for this may or may not be feasible. If yiu are looking for office work saying you need to finish by 6pm is reasonable. If you are looking for bar work it's not0 -
I dont see why the jobcentre are being like they are as you are trying to further your prospects - however I can understand that they have you down as looking for and being able to work but then you are saying you are unavailable for a certain time (even if it is a course).Weight Loss - 102lb0
