    Right - I've dredged up the info. I used to make my mind up about this - so anyone wanting to can read and see what they think for themselves:

    Do remember that you are adding calories by stewing the fruit in the first place.Like for example orange juice has a much higher calorie value than three oranges.

    eh? Stewing fruit without added sugar etc does not add calories - one apple has the same calories after stewing as it did before! If you stew something down a lot and remove all the water the calories per 100g might increase as it is more concentrated

    I think the point is that it's quite hard to imagine eating three apples, but if you stew three apples the volume you have to consume is less, so its relatively easier to eat more and thus the calorie intake rises - just as, say, juicing oranges can mean you have 6 oranges' worth of fruit (and calories) when, if they remained whole, you would be unlikely to do so.
    Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!
  • Try stewing it in a bit of apple juice - just a tiny bit. Less cals than sugar, although it will still add calories of course. Other than that, adding cinnamon, ginger, vanilla and other "puddingy" flavours will take away any sharpness so it wont taste so sour.
