Outlook Express won't send messages

Hi

We recently moved from Onetel dial up to AOL broadband but when we try to send an email via Outlook Express, using our onetel email address it doesn't usually work. I'd like to switch to a hotmail address but as we have over 200 contacts on our onetel.com email addy I need to get this sorted even if we do move to Hotmail

I contacted onetel who said that the outgoing stmp server needs to be AOL's server, so I found out from AOL that it's stmp.uk.aol.com and have plugged that into Outlook express, but it still doesn't send our emails straight away. I've clarified all the little boxes with AOL help and all of them are correctly ticked/unticked so nothing there.

AOL Live Help don't seem able to know and always suggest I do something long winded and stupid that I've already tried before and Onetel don't know why it isn't working because apparently if it's an error then it's AOL's stmp server which is AOL's fault.

Someone please throw me a lifeline I'll be very grateful Thank you

how do you mean by 'it doesn't send our emails straight away'?
Do they sit in the outbox for a while?

Yes they just stay in outbox and after I'm fed up with clicking Send/Receive and getting the error, I leave it and then it will suddenly be gone. Other times it will sit there for days :wall:

Did you type it correctly? It's smtp.uk.aol.com

Mail server seems to be down though:

which is why you can't send anything.

copy the address book across

do a search on google for copying the address book across.
not really sure why you wish to set up a one tel account for sending emails, why not just send emails from aol? the other thing you could consider is setting up more than one email account, one for aol and one for onetel, what you would have to do is to get your one tel dial up account to dial in and retreive emails from one tels servers, not sure of any other way of doing it. if you wish to do that do a search on setting up two email accounts in outlook express

You will need to change your port setting from the standard used default of port 25. See here for details.

OK I'm away from home atm but will try switching to port 587 - I think one of the AOL Live Help people said to do this but it didn't seem to help. One time the error from the server was "rate limit exceeded" or something like that anyway
