how should i resign?

I have been having problems with my boss for a while (not paying saturday work, not paying on time amoungst other problems) i ahve worked for the company for a year now, i've never recieved a contract except the original offer of employment and was promised a payrise after 3 months which i asked about and it never occured. I have been offered another job and wish to take it. Should i write a letter of resignation with immediate effect or work out the week (although others that have left have never been paid). Advice needed please.

Work your notice, or they can sue you (but probably won't). Alternatively if you hate it that much leave a turd on your bosses desk and don't turn up again.
  • Try and leave without burning any bridges, you never know when you may have to work with or for your current colleagues again.

Do you remember what your initial offer of employment said about notice? If possible hand in a written resignation as soon after you get paid as possible and if applicable tell them you're moving to a competitor so they will probably put you on garden leave so you don't need to worry about getting paid for your notice period.

If you just toddle off you are going down to your bosses level.

Give your boss a letter saying you wish to resign and give one weeks notice of this.
My last working day will be .................

If they tell you to go now then they have to pay you till your last day stated in your letter.

Good luck with your new job............
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

don't forget you are entitled to be paid for any leave accrued but not taken: I always think it's worth working out how much this is and asking to be either paid for it or to take it as leave, 'reminding' the employer that it is your right!
