Lovely Egg

I got a lovely email from those nice people at Egg today. Having maxed my card out last weekend robbing Peter to pay Paul they have assessed my account and kindly put my interest rate up from 21.9% to 26.9%. Very kind of them saying I have never missed a payment. Talk about kick a man when he's down. They have however given me the get out clause of canceling the card and freezing at 21.9%. I quickly took them up on this and shredded the card. All this as I consider a DMP but feel awkward doing so. Why should I bother, they don't care about us. It's about time the Govournment did something about these astronomical interest rates.

I make full repayments on my card and it went from originally 15.9% to 25.9% if not higher by now in the space of about a year. I think CC companies just tend to interest the rate over time regardless of usage.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
  • They put my interest up to just shy of 30% a while back. Criminal. Should be a law against it.

i dont agree dc , i am sure its targeted in some way....

We have been rate jacked by halifax and the letter specifys the rate on current balance transfer balances on our account , and they know , obviously , that there isnt any purchase balances on the account.....im betting that if we only had purchases on the account the letter would have been tailor made and increased purchases interst rates instead...
  • I had that on all three of my cards (Egg, HSBC & Sains) so I opted out of and chopped up Egg and HSBC (and now have the pleasure of watching the balances fall instead of rise each month) and the nice men at Sains gave me a six month stay of execution on my old APR but brought down my limit, but I have to say they couldn't have done anything better to help me get out of debt - by cutting off my credit it means I CAN'T spend over my means, and am now about halfway through paying off my 25K debt :D
  • The people at egg are clowns i haven't used my card for a while but i done a bt last week and got a email a couple of days ago that they are putting the rate up from a already high 26.9 to 29.9.
