  • Hello! Thank you all for the replies! I got the job! I have to work 2 hours between 10pm and 10am and I get to pick when. That'll fit in perfectly with me. It starts in a few weeks so I can add the extra payments then.

I was wondering if I could get some advice? I called A&L to find out if some more details about my mortgage. It turns out with the loan (that's secured) I can't move house without repaying it in full or change morgage deals.

The loan it turns out is like a second mortgage. So my question to you all is, am I better moving my overpayments to the loan and paying that off completly (this will take 3 years) or should I continue paying towards the mortgage (where the greatest savings on interest will be made.

I know it makes sense to pay off the loan and clear that so if I want to move/change products I can but even so the money would be better spent on the mortgage!

    Help!

    Thank you all :D

    Hello all,

Just a quick add on to my diary. (It'll be fun reading in a year or two so I'm going to try and update monthly at the very least.)

We've decided to overpay the '02' section of our mortgage and get that cleared. This will enable us to port the mortgage when we eventually decide to move. It will also get us a LTV of about 85% depending on how much our house is valued at.

Finally thanks to the overpayments we made before focusing on the '02' account we've knocked an additonal 3 years off our mortgage term. Happy days!

  • just looking at your bills, do you not own a car and do neither of you own mobiles? that budget looks really tight, maybe look at ebaying some old stuff.Looks like you are doing great, it took us a few years before we could even think about o.p'ing so i think you are already ahead of most by just thinking about it.
    good luck with your plan

Just wanted to say well done on your O/P's so far - I can't believe you have knocked 3 years off already.

Well done on getting the second job, but don't work too hard! It will be a long journey (for me at least!) so don't over do it!

    Hiya Golfie Matt,

That's just the break down for our joint account. We both pay 60% of our salaries into the account and up it by £50 each April which will go straight into the mortgage I think. We both have the rest of our money to pay for cars, mobiles and other personal things. We chose to keep our finances seperate when we married as it worked well for us when we lived together.:)
