I have applied to Santander and the Coop online but as yet have heard nothing back.
I am going through divorce involving multiple businesses. H is selling off assets and all sorts and present solicitor is ineffectual.
Had a meeting last week with a top divorce lawyer, who recognised straight away what he is up to.
Her fees are far in excess of what I can afford, so she is reducing them to the level of my current useless sol. However she still predicts to get to the end will cost £20,000 including barristers. She also requires £5,000 on account before she can take the case on.

My two BC's are maxed out, I can tell you the reason in a PM, but to say why here may identify me to H.
Plenty of equity in the home and we are tenants in common now since starting divorce. I don't know whether I can borrow against my half, doubt it.
If I employ the new sol I stand to gain far more than the outlay.

I know there is a lot of knowledgable people here so any suggestions gratefully received.

  • Very convenient that she dropped her fees to the level of your current Solicitors, seems too good to be true!! Look into legal aid.

  • Because it is a seperation case, their is no winner or no loser which means both parties have to pick up their own legal tab. Why can people not just answer the OPs questions instead of trying to pick holes in their logic.

No offence, but your post is out of place, no-one is trying to pick logic, people are trying to help because in their opinion, the OP is going to find it very difficult to obtain the finance of £20,000 from what the OP has stated.

OP, what will be your income now and after the divorce proceedings?
How much do you owe on personal debts/liabilities?
How much do you owe in joint liabilities?

Once we have this information, we can give more personalised advice.
    Best Regards

Friend of mine did, and in the end the legal bills came to close what their total asets were. In the end they both agreed it would have been better to have sorted it out themselves.
