Hiya
I couldnt see this on the mega indexed thread, so I thought I'd share :j
My mum has been making this for years, and its yummy! Tastes a bit like the sticky fruit bread you can get. Its also really easy :T
You need to use the same cup or container to measure everything, so that they are all equal volumes.
Add together one cup of each of the following:
All Bran (or supermarkets own brand
)
Brown Sugar
Dried Fruit- usually sultanas or currants
Milk
Mix together well, and leave to stand overnight.
next day, add 1 cup of self raising flour and mix well.
pour into loaf tin, or muffin cases.
Bake at gas mark 4 - approx 40mins for a loaf, and a bit less for muffins.
Enjoy!!
EDITED TO ADD: there is no fat in this recipie, so make sure you grease your tin well- I have just forgotten, and made some in muffin cases, and they stuck to the paper!! So I'm now going to be picking bits of paper out of em before we can eat them! :rotfl:

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

This isn`t the original recipe I had for this loaf, sorry. I will put this on here though in case it is any use to you.
Albran Fruit Loaf
Very easy to do and best eaten sliced with butter.
1 mug SR flour
1 mug caster sugar
1 mug Albran
1 mug mixed dried fruit
1 mug milk
method
Place all ingredients except the flour in a bowl and stir. Leave for at least 1 hour to soak. Add flour, mix and pour into a lined 2lb loaf tin. Cook for about an hour, or until firm to the touch at 180 degrees. Cool and cover as this loaf is better if it is left until the following day to be eaten with lashings of butter!
Perhaps you could substitute tea for the milk?
Not everyone likes lashings of butter I know, but I left that bit on too.The more I see of men, the more I love dogs - Madame de Sevigne0 -

Hi there  There's a recipe using tea here. I'll add this to the existing bran cake thread to keep ideas together.
