ive been 'helping' my sister deal with a council tax debt that went to bailiffs - im using the term helping loosely as i think ive got her into serious trouble
basically she owes £79.55 to the council and the bailiffs have written with a breakdown of charges which include
visit fee 1 £24.50
visit fee 2 18.00
sch 5 head h £24.50
attendance/van £110.00
levy fee £26.00
no levy has been made and they sent her a letter with it saying they will send the account back to the council for 'consideration to apply for committal to prison'
i just dont know what to tell her to do now

the council cant send her to prison so that just balls once the baliffs send it back to the council contact them and ask to pay the 79.55 off the rest of the fees will be in applicable because they are just abliffs fees and once it sent back to the coucil they cant do nowtReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

I'm guessing you live in England, I work with Council Tax in Scotland and our laws are different. You don't get a jail sentence here for Council Tax for one.
Where I work I would recommend her to speak to the Council, see if they will accept a payment proposal to clear the account. If they can't now accept it at this stage then contact the baliffs and see what can be sorted out with them.
Don't let her pay more than she can afford to pay as it may mean she falls behind elsewhere. If they wont agree to anything, then get bank details from them where she can set up a standing order to pay that amount to them anyway, or giro slips. As far as I am aware a jail sentence would only be considered where there is refusal to make payments. Therefore if payments are being made and she has proof, she can show her willingness to clear this payment.0
