Rant About Paying Debts!!

Does anyone else find that actually paying the debts back is difficult?? I'm earning a lot of money in cash that I want to pay off of my debts. I have been able to pay some of my store cards off at the Post Office near my office, but have found that some giro slips are only accepted by the bank. There is a Barclays near my work and on the Capital One website it said payments can be made at any bank - so I've just been there to pay another chunk off my credit card and they wouldn't accpet it as I don't bank with them.
I'm with HSBC, there is no HSBC branch in the town where I work and because of the hours I do I can't get to the one in my home town due to the opening hours! I'm getting sooo frustrated cos I really want to pay chunks off of my debts every week but now it seems I'm going to have to save it all up at home and then take an afternoon off work to go to the bank once I have enough to pay each card off in full!
Just a rant really!!!

No doubt these companies will claim otherwise but I believe they make it intentionally difficult to pay by methods where they cannot capture your personal banking details (such as bank account numbers, credit/debit card details etc).
There are numerous threads on this board where people have had money or transactions made without their authorization. It would appear that this it perfectly above board as far as the banks are concerned as if you contact them about it your have to take issue with the trader who has taken your details.
Personally I have got to the point where I pay very little with debit card and I only pay recurring payments by standing order and actually use cash more now than I did 10 years ago.
Where those I deal with refused payment by standing order I in turn refused to make any payment at all. Strangely they either came up with bank details to make an SO payment to or they suddenly accepted postal orders.
Understand your rant totally, I have to do something similar just on a monthly basis!

Saltandvinegar - thanks for joining in my rant, what you have says does make sense actually, I hadn't thought about it that way but it does seem like they make it difficult to pay cash! I paid the store cards off at the Post Office but resented having to pay £2.50 a time in fees just to pay them!!
I'm just really annoyed right now because I have £700 in my purse that I want to pay off cards but won't be able to get to the bank this week, so will still be paying interest when I have the money to pay another card off in full and put some towards another card, getting it back under its limit, ahhhhh!! No one apart from my husband (who works even longer hours than me and so def can't get to HSBC) knows about our debts or how I'm paying them back so I can't ask anyone to go to the bank for me.
It feels like they're so quick to send you hundreds of letters and phone every 2 minutes when you owe them money but to make a payment is such a challenge!!
Nice to know I'm not the only one p*ssed off about this anyway!!!

I have always found it strange that credit card companies claim that any bank will process your payment. Surely if a bank refuses to do this then there is nothing Capital One can do about it?
Or is this some sort of rule that banks must adhere to?0 -
Why dont you just pay it on line. Seems the easiest way to me.
Or over the phone.
I pay my Amex off every month over the phone.
Unless of course you dont want to put it in your bank account so that the tax man can see it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I have to admit to being addicted to online banking! Check it every morning first thing, always trying to pay off a bit here or there. Being paid in cash and the accompanying problems in your post must make paying off debt that bit more frustrating though - good luck with figuring out a better way to get it sorted

I get paid from my second job in cash so just want to pay debts off using the giro slips as I can't get to the bank to put the cash in the bank if you see what I mean! No tax probs, I'm using the same accountant as I did last time I worked in this industry and he sorts it all out for me at the end of the year, it's just physically getting to the bank that's the problem!
I suppose I could open a Barclays account so I could pay the cash in there but as I hope to have paid all the debts off by Christmas, (so the cash issue is only short term) it seems a lot of messing around!!
All my bills and everything are paid by direct debit or online banking with my wages from my day job, it's just the money I'm earning from the second job which I took on to clear my debts that is frustrating me!!Lightbulb moment - 1 August 2010Debts: Argos - [STRIKE]£600 [/STRIKE][STRIKE]£400 [/STRIKE][STRIKE]£325[/STRIKE] £0, Homebase - [STRIKE]£600[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£400[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£325[/STRIKE] £0, HSBC Credit Card - [STRIKE]£500[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£400[/STRIKE] £0, Next - [STRIKE]£50[/STRIKE] £0, Capital One A - [STRIKE]£1000[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£300[/STRIKE] £0, Capital One B - [STRIKE]£100[/STRIKE] £0, Vanquis - [STRIKE]£550[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£100[/STRIKE] £0, NW Credit Card - [STRIKE]£3800[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£3300[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£970[/STRIKE] £0, Funding Corporation - [STRIKE]£445[/STRIKE] £00 -
Just open a local bank account, pay your cash in there, once its up and running it should be easy peasy, make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Two threads giving the reason why you should never pay over the phone and give a creditor or DCA your card details. This practice is now becoming rife and there is very little people seem able to do about it...

yes ive noticed this, certain banks/credit cards will shut down ur net account, so that makes it easier to pay yea?
or the DCA's that send letters with NO payment information. BRILLIANT idea.
I have a current loan company & their DCA, refusing payment by any other means than debit card. ignoring all of my correspondence for standing order, or even a payment card!0 -
Moorcroft wanted me to pay 50p to the post office every week to pay them....... I think not!!!!!!!!!!
Called them up and spoke to a dim customer service (ahem) person who didnt understand when I asked for standing order details.....doh!! Ended up having to get them from a supervisor... scaryLight Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0
