Haldanes?

Has anyone been in a Haldanes supermarket? I'm thinking of going to the one in Carterton this weekend. Is it worth my while and any idea of the deals there?

  • We have one that used to be a sommerfeilds - not impressed at all to be honnest but it is a community store rather than a supermarket size. Its expensive ( more so than co-op / sommerfeilds) the range in mine is average and no "own " brand its all named brand things. Only good point is that our sells local meat / produce ( cakes, eggs, cordial) but the co-op up the road does that as well, so not a massive draw.

This is just ours though, others in the country might be different ( not sure if they are inderpendants or chain as ours use "nisa" branded carrier bags? )

Trying to find out whats happening to this chain. Kelso shop is really struggling, down to half filled shelves . Staff say there is a cash flow problem and they have no idea whats happening. Local gossip is that Tescos have bought it. Agree with yours views on the shop, must be a worrying time for the staff. We have a Co op and Lidl as well thank goodness, the set up in ours is the same as yours. NewSainsburyopening late Summer:j

Yes we are talking about today, 9th June.2011. I am in the Scottish Borders but the Wick Shop is in the same predicament. Our Haldanes has been a Safeway, then Morrisons, then Somerfields, then a Somerfields/Co op and was sold to Haldanes . I use it for top up shopping, the home delivery service is useful.
Have you been in your branch lately? Are they having problems as well?
