Had a letter regarding ancient 'debt'

    I would go with the 'prove it' letter, rather than Statute Barred. It may be that all they have is a record of a debt and no supporting evidence.

    I would combine the two, i.e:

    I do not recall having such a debt please provide me with proof.... blah blah. However if this debt did indeed exist then it is now over 6 years old and I have not been contacted about it in the mean time... blah blah.
  • I think your problem lies with the DCA. It seems they trawl through debts from years back and buy them up, even without checking if the debt has been settled or if it even actually exsists. They rely on people being soft and use scare tactics to get them to pay for the debt. Therefore making a ton of money by basically bullying people. Tell them if they cant provide proof then tell them to go forth and multiply.
