Mortgage/credit score problem

My son and his partner want to move out of her house and buy a new place together so he can be on the mortgage (security and all that apart from anything else). He has had a bad time with debt in the past but is sorting it out now. He has just got a credit report and it is slightly above halfway in the 'fair' section. He has had no missed payments just late ones but that was a year or so ago. Is there any legal way we, or rather his dad, can help out by offering to be named on the mortgage to enable him to get started? We and his partner have very good credit scores and all we want to do is help him out - can't do it financially so is there another way? We are assuming that a mortgage application would be turned down as his credit score is still not great, and that of course would be another black mark!

By the sounds of it - I would not think that your sons (and partners) application would be that difficult even just the two of them. The credit hisotry is not that bad by the looks of it and I would think that some lenders could look at this on standard rates
Have a word with a whole of market mortgage adviser and let them have a look at the credit report and let you know what options could be available.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Thank you Herbie - that's quite comforting and good advice. I will pass it on to them.0
