Changes in life- Changes in overpaying

  • Congratulations Ironman!

It might be worth double checking your Halifax Mortgage as with mine I'm allowed to have a mortgage holiday if on maternity leave. Also I think if I've overpaid I can also stop paying and my overpayments will be used to pay the mortgage until the overpayment pot has all been used (this isn't quite how it works but it's been a long day and I can't think how else to explain it!)

I know it's not ideal for everyone but I pay each overpayment by standing order, it gives me the flexibility of adjusting the amount each month but also encourages me to pay something so I don't have to set it up again- best of both worlds

Seems like Halifax offer few different options then.

With ours we can see the mortgage figure online and it updates a day or two after a payment. From what I was told over the phone we can't take any kind of payment holiday or pay with our previous overpayments. I will look into it...

We did op with standing order for a couple of months, but online Halifax didn't offer a way of editing the payment. Had to be done over the phone. From my experience so far, they make it quite hard!
  • I op'd into my mortgage account (halifax) online - just couldn't do it from another hali account. from natwest it was fine though and the op always appeared the next day.

But now I'm not - (Joint) Mortgage £104704.
    New MFW target £5000 overpayments by 31/12/2105 £400/£5000 = 8%
    SAVINGS TARGET - £25000 by 31/12/2015 £13643/£25000 = 55%

Yeah they told me that you can overpay from another bank account into Halifax but all our accounts are with them apart from one I have with Santander that I sometimes use for buying things online (don't know why!). Maybe from when the baby is born I could put a spare hundred or whatever in there and overpay from that. Good idea thanks!
