Have just spoken to my friend and she will pay it now for me and when they refund me i will give it back lol Thankyou for all your suggestions i think i may have an ebay selling spree anyway to build up an emergency money fund lol ...as for the promoter well if i ever hear back from them we will see haha

The terms said nothing about having to cover an import fee ...when i spoke to ups they said that the company had selected the wrong option when they posted it and that is why they werent charged the fees

Fantastic prize to win when you are planning a wedding - glad your friend can pay it for you. Definitely need to get in touch with the competition promoters though, they may welll be quite surprised that this has happened.

Hope things turn around for you soon. Don't look on this as bad luck - you won a wedding dress, it was an error on someone else's part that the import duty is charged, that is not bad luck. This is the start of a run of good luck for you, the more you think that the more likely you are to make it happen.

£30 duty on a £500 dress? I think you have been lucky, think it should be more. Senders don't usually pay for duty unless stated. If you are concerned about duty on future wins then it's best to stick with comps in the UK and Europe. Anyway well done on your win.
