national insurance contributions

hi i have a part time job and i am currently on a PAYE (pay as you earn) payroll. i earned below £6000.00 last year, but because some weeks i earned over a £110 pound i got national insurance deducted from my pay, i also got tax deducted but requested it back from my employer, can i do the same with national insurance can i request it back?

No. You get an annual tax allowance (£6475 - £7475 from April 2011) and your annual earnings are assessed against this. Your employer will use a weekly table to assess the tax due or repayable each week, so effectively allowance and tax are cumlulative. There is no such allowance for National Insurance, if you exceed the primary threshold (£110 per week) you are charged, and it is not refundable.0
