Any point in applying for a job that's closed?

This might be a stupid question but I've just seen 2 vacancies (with the same company) that I'm really, really interested in! Unfortunately the vacancies closed on Friday :(

Do you think there's any point in still trying to apply?! Obviously with it being a Friday I doubt much would be happening with it until tomorrow.

If people think there is a point in applying I'm able to apply right now, but how would I word it (the fact I've missed the deadline)?! Obviously doesn't look very good if I can't keep to the deadline but I don't want to miss out on the opportunity if there's still a chance!

Also as it's 2 vacancies (quite similar) with the one company and I'm interested in both, should I make seperate applications?

Any advice welcome!!

If you have to time and nothing to lose then go for it. The worst that can happen is they say no. You could just say that you came across their advert after the closing date and still decided to apply as you were so interested.

  • If I was really really wanting one of the jobs; I'd have all the necessary applications firmly completed; then call first thing on Monday and tell them that you had tried several times to send the application in on Friday but it kept being returned [that is if you had an email address] so could they supply you with another one and would it be possible to submit it immediately.....

No email address, makes it a little harder; but you could post the application through their door before start of working hours tomorrow morning if they are close by.

Otherwise, complete the forms and just call in the morning and be honest that you only saw the jobs today and are very keen so would they take a late application on this one occasion. What have you got to lose?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • Thanks for the replies :)

I have decided to apply anyway, however, I've actually just found the same jobs advertised on a different website with NO deadline date mentioned!

So I will send them an e-mail now and reference the website that doesn't include the deadline date ;)

i have done in the past and i say if their dumb enough not to take the ad down then its still up for grabs.
  • Go for it. I've actually seen a job late in the day and called to ask about it. Ended up having a chat with the manager in charge who urged me to apply. Applied, interviewed and got the job all within a week. ALWAYS worth a go. Good luck with it.

That maybe true in your eyes but they could just quite easily discard it without paying it much attention as the instructions were not followed.

Well that's worst case scenario, I suppose. And half of the things I have applied for, well within deadlines, don't even get any acknowledge whatsoever, so I'm used to it!

Have sent off my applications from the website that didn't have the deadline date so fingers crossed :)

    Thanks, everyone!

The majority of applications are discarded after varying levels of perusal. If you didn't apply because of the reasons it might be discarded, you would never make an application.

True but in the current climate I may have a quick perusal over the late applications but I'm not gonna waste that much time over it as I already have 80 odd applications forms that will get me someone just as good.

Saying that I would say apply anyway because you never know

well they should have been thorough and taken the ad down. Ive seen jobs advertised up to a month later than expiry, on agency websites aswell as the employers website.

doesnt really bode well with their admin though does it?! probably a CACK company anyway.
