Early retirement and jobseeking / benefits

Hi All,

I have had enough of working for my company after working for them ( off and on since the early 70's). Sorted and leaving in less than 1 month on my 55th birthday.

I will be getting pension of around £11K and planned on possible part time job to boost my income. I know I won't get job seekers allowance and am not moaning about that.

However some bar room lawyers think I can get income support or some benefits as I have a 14 year old at school.

I am very sceptical but I thought I would check if anyone has had any experience with this situation?

Thanks for taking the time to peruse my query

Paul

I cant see income support being payable but childrens and working tax credits would be.

  • you could try posting on the benefits board
  • Go onto sickness benefit ( It must have been traumatic that you had to leave your job, and very depressing).
You may qualify for ESA and maybe DLA, I'm sure some barroom benefits adviser can point you in the right direction.
Best of luck to you, and enjoy your retirement, there's a whole new world opening up for you out there!

  • If it's financially beneficial (& possible) to defer your pension for 6 months, you should be eligible for "contribution based job seekers allowance" for up to 6 months......after all, you are looking for a new job ;)
