a - the composter should not be near the kitchen window!
b - if you have too many flies; it is too wet so add a fair amount of dry paper/cardboard etc

    So I see. :o:D

Will definitely be moving it, just need to move a couple of other things in the garden first so need OH to be off for a weekend first.

Think you're right, it's been mostly veg peelings and the like that's gone in lately.

  • Our compost bin is nearly full to the brim just now with the top crammed with the blackberry bits removed after jelly making last week. The flies are having their fill.

The bin is now starting to tilt over a bit so I really have to tackle it soon but there are still things growing in most of the patches I have so have nowhere to offload the stuff. Does the compost have to be dug in to get the benefit or can I just throw some around the remaining plants (courgettes, sprouts, leeks, strawberries and carrots) and dig it in once they have finished cropping??? Or could i just fill a couple of trugs in the meantime and leave them out of breathing distance?

If it is well composted, you should be ok just spreading it round your plants initially.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
