Just been into Tesco for a few things and noticed they have a special edition Lurpak, it includes 2 x 250g block packs of Lurpak which are packaged up in a loaf tin, for £3. There is also a small recipe booklet as well and a 30p voucher off Lurpak Spreadable or Lighter, valid until 28 Feb.

We usually buy the spreadable Lurpak, which was also on offer for £2 for 500g, but decided to get this instead as I'd been looking for a decent loaf tin as I've just started home baking, but they were all too expensive, so for 70p (counting in the 30p voucher) more than the spreadable I now have a very nice loaf tin! :D

Hope this is of use to others.

I have also been looking for a loaf tin, and agree, they are far too expensive. Approximately how big is it, and could you fit a standard 800g sized loaf in it?

    PS - Thanks for tip

If you lot can not afford to pay for a loaf tin then how do you expect to pay for the fuel to heat the oven? To pay for the flour? To pay for the extra heating to allow the dough to rise? Weird.

No, it's not that big, I would personally use it for making cakes rather than bread, as it would be a smallish loaf, but then we are a family of 4, I guess if you don't eat much bread then it would be fine.

Thanks for the tip, will bear that in mind.

The best place to get the dough to rise in my house? In a bowl (or the tin) on the lap of anyone who is sitting still! Hubby can be frequently found with a bowl on his lap, resting his laptop on top of the bowl for extra heat. :T

Nobody has said they can't afford to pay for a loaf tin, they have said the loaf tins are too expensive. There's a big difference. I could afford to pay £8 for a pint of milk, but I wouldn't do it because I would think the milk is too expensive.

If you can't find this, I can recommend the silicone loaf 'tins' in Poundland - easier to clean than a real tin, and only a quid.
  • What a pity it's imported, when perfectly good English butter is on the shelf beside it.

It gives a new definition to the term 'multi-tasking' - thanks for the tip.
