Mortgage Insurance: Bank Nurse

Hi, not sure if this is the correct forum to post this on. Apologies if not.

My partner has been working for the NHS for almost 20 years, mostly on what is known as a 'bank contract'. Basically he is contracted to work wherever in the hospital there is a shift available. Up until very recently there has been no shortage of work, but it seems due to some new hospital directives for budgeting there are now a very limited number of shifts available and more bank nurses than needed to cover them. He doesn't get paid unless he works and if there isn't any work, no money.
We have mortgage insurance and we were wondering if anyone knew if it would cover this kind of situation? Has anyone had experience with similar circumstances or any advice?

I have a second job as a bank nurse but not main job. You can bet your life the insurance wouldnt pay for that because you do not have a set amount of contracted hours. I suppose in their eyes they could literally be paying out every month or you could choose not to take shifts because they would pay the insurance for you to cover your mortgage. Worth asking them though.
