New Spectacles

I went to the opticians today (Boots) and my prescription has changed which meant new lenses...so I thought! Instead, I was told its far cheaper to buy brand new frames (2 for 1) with new lenses. WHAT?? I like my old glasses! What do I do with them now? Ok so one pair are Boots own but REALLY comfy...my second pair are Gant which Im told is a designer glasses maker?!

I've chosen 2 new pairs which I hope are comfy but how can they get away with this?

My two new pairs have cost me £149.00 whereas new lenses would of been £80 each.

I dont understand! :eek::eek:

If you were replacing lenses in 2 pairs of glasses it would have cost £160, and you've got 2 new full pairs of glasses with the new lenses for £149 so it is cheaper though not much. If you liked your old glasses and were told that was the price for new lenses why did you choose the 2 new pairs? Or did you not check the cost first? I'm not sure what they 'got away with' if they told you the prices for both and you chose to take the slightly cheaper option.

Oh and regarding what to do with your old ones...when I got 2 new pairs recently they took my old ones and they can use them for charity

Agree with the Charity idea, D&A optitions will accept old glasses to send off, Red Cross also can use old pairs of glasses- they send them off to the third world areas where the people there don't have access to health care let alone optitions so can be well used.

If you do still love the old pair though, maybe keep them and get your next set of new lenses put in them (in arund 2 yrs time).

Here is the address for your glasses if you do want to send them off to

Vision Aid Overseas and the Red Cross:

    Prescription glasses
    Unit 12 The Bell Centre
    Newton Road
    Manor Royal
    Crawley
    West Sussex
    RH10 9FZ

    Telephone: 01293 535 016

(Note: Vision Aid Overseas only accepts prescription glasses. If you have clothing or other items, please consider donating them to your nearest Red Cross charity shop)

I just went to Tesco's. I got a free sight test and a new pair of specs (with lenses) for £10.

    I'm well chuffed. :)
