I've driven past the ' Bridal Sale Shop' at the bottom of the Castlereagh Rd a number of times, and although I'm not looking for a wedding dress, I called in today to see what it was like. I'm posting the following here in case anyone is interested.

The shop is not in one of the most salubrious (upmarket) areas and has metal grills on the windows which doesn't give a very good impression. The sign over the door has been hand painted which doesn't help matters, but these factors presumably keep the price of the stock low.

There's a homemade sign in the window stating 'wedding dresses FROM £99.....however,having had a look at the stock of dresses today, I cant say that I saw any for £99....The ones I looked at seemed to range from £150 - £450

I have no idea what price wedding dresses are these days, so I don't know how these prices compare, but I thought the stock in the shop was really varied and lovely and might be worth having a look at for any prospective 'money saving' brides.

P.S The web site is a lot more 'fancy' than the shop itself, but the dresses are every bit as lovely (imo) as the photos.

.Agree with your description of the area lol. I have driven past it loads of times and never seen it open, not that I am looking for a wedding dress though.

Friend of mine from work got a fantastice dress from this shop. She pulled up in car and was not going to go in because outside of shop looked so drap. She went in and got a dress fantastic dress she even did some bargaining with the sales assistant. Dresses are all new but you need to bring someone to help you.

Wish I'd known about this shop a few years ago. I was in the horrible position of being point blank ignored in shops if I didn't have an appointment and being charged monopoly money for a dress that almost didn't make it in time even with 7 months notice.

Sorry...googling salubrious doesn't help much :o I ment 'well to do' ....and MANY apologies to any of the locals :)
  • Its good to hear of people who have been in the shop, Im getting married next year and havent got a dress sorted yet. Would love to check the shop out as I do love a bargain! The shop almost seems too good to be true!! I see on their website they are opening a shop for bridesmaid dresses as well beside it.

I don't know how far you've to travel,sunny-2009, or how well you know Belfast, but the shop is probably just over a mile from Belfast Central (train) Station -defo no more than 2. It's NOT the sort of area you'd expect to go 'Bridal Shopping', BUT I thought the dresses were really beautiful....I'd describe it as being a bit like a 'factory shop'...stock apeared to be 'one off's',lots of smaller sizes when I was there eg size's 6 (??)-10, but plenty of other sizes as well.ALL seemed to be good quality, 'heavy' material.Mainly white and cream but one or two AMAZING pink and beige creations too.
Remember..the exterior ( and interior ) are NOT fancy, but in my opinion, worth a visit or phone call.:)

    Hi Joy,

Im living in Belfast at the minute, not too far from the shop. I drove past it a while ago and was a bit shocked at the outside but tbh it wouldnt bother me so long as there is a bargain to be had!! Im relived to hear the quality is good though. Im going to visit it in a couple of weeks time, Ill remember not to expect a glass of champagne when I walk in :rotfl:

This gave me a giggle as I had the same experience. Rang round all the usual shops in Belfast, not one of them would even give me an appointment! Conversation with one of them even went like this :

Snooty sales woman ' when is your wedding?'
    Me 'July'
Snooty sales woman 'ho ho ho, you mean July next year, of course'
    Me 'no, July this year'
Snooty sales woman 'let me tell you this dear, you should have been on the phone with me a year ago, then I might have fitted you in'
Me 'I only got engaged a few weeks ago, what sort of a psycho shops for a wedding dress a year before someone has asked her to marry them?'

In the event I found a beautiful dress from a shop in Ballymena, and had it altered, with no fuss and all within my four month timescale.

Some of the women in those wedding dress shops are the snootiest I have ever come across!
