dodgy bread - what can I do with it ?

Options
I made some bread this morning in my bread machine this morning using a setting I hadn't used before, it was all doughy in the middle so I whacked it in the normal oven .... and forgot about it for aaagggess :o so now its like a brick

So - what can I do with it, I've eaten the edible bits. all I can think of is croutons. Any other ideas please?

Thanks,
Jill

Bread and butter pudding, let an eggy custard mix soak into the dry bread and all should be good!

  • What about bread and butter pudding?

If you make lots of the custardy bit and leave it to soak for a few hours it might soften the bread up (I sometimes use quite a heavy granary bread and it works OK on that):rotfl:

  • Well I would have suggested bread and butter pud too, but the only ofther thing I can think of is a 2 fat ladies recipe that opens a loaf,(take one end off) scoops out the inside brea and just leave the crusts as the shell, load the inside up with steak, onions and mushrooms, use the bread that was taken out to soak up the gravy,(it mooshes down by a lot) stuff it all back in and put the end back on, then you wrap it in grasedproof paper, tie up with string, weight it down under a board (or something similar to evenly disperse the weight,) with a big pan full of water or something on top, and leave it for a few hours till it's like a meat and bread terrine thing.

Not sure if thats of any help if you've already been hacking away at it but it's a savery alternative to the bread pud if nothing else!
    HTH.

cheers all. Think I might try the bread and butter pudding thing tomorrow.

Purpleimp, I can't do the 2fat ladies thingy as it would take some kind of industrial tool to hack the inside out its that hard :rotfl: and the ducks might sink:rotfl:

Will report back as to how much liquid it soaked up!
Have got lots of rather old and dried out sultanas in the cupboard, will lob a few of those in too .... yum
