So, I am going into 4th year at uni. I applied (and have gotten) loans from SLC all these years. In 3rd year, I left uni half way through and had to redo 3 modules before I could progress into 4th year, so had to do that. I got my loan throughout 3rd year. Last year, I didn't get any bursary or loan, and £4.00 was coming out of my wages every month (not a lot but still).

Anyway, just received a statement from SLC saying how much I owe and they've only credited £4.00 to my account? What? Also, I only earned £7k last year, so not the 15k that they're supposed to wait for before taking money from my account?

Any advice?

Statements for Student Loans are from April 2009 - March 2010.

If you made any payments in April 2010 onwards they will not show up till the following year.

If however, you have made more payments in last financial year they may have made a mistake you should contact them. Check your P60 and it should state how much payment you made for last financial year and send a photocopy off this to them. Not sure if that will help since they only take HMRC records in to account and only update there system with these.

You shouldn't need to pay the loan since you were unearning less then the threshold.

You can contact SLC and get refund for those payments and they are probably the ones who can issue a notice to HMRC who in turn will contact your employer to stop taking further payments.
