Ok, so we're having a gift list, and along with the card from John Lewis with the gift list number on, I want to include a poem or something to say along the lines of 'thank you for joining us on our special day, it's your presence not your presents we want, but if you would like to give us a gift, we have a small list at...' etc.
Has anyone seen any poems or similar we can use? Have had a quick google but can't find anything, as most seem to cater for those asking for cash/contributions to honeymoon instead of gifts!
Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't bother personally. People have made these poems for non-traditional gift lists - as you have a traditional one I wouldn't bother with a poem? Where are you going to write it? Just slip JL's card into the invitations and don't mention it again.I love surprises!0

To be honest, that's actually what I want to do. It's my mum saying we need to include a poem-type thing as well. I may just 'accidentally' forget to include it when I send out the invitations in a couple of weeks... :rotfl::j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0

Well, the way I see it is including gift lists in the invitation could be considered rude, but admittedly is pretty standard nowadays. However, to include a business card with the details and another business card type thing saying "we don't really want a present but we do" would definitelyhave the opposite effect to it's intention.
People are so worried about offending someone with gift lists I think we're heading down a road where everyone thinks a cutesy poem makes everything all better.... Actually there's nothing wrong with gift lists, and the more you discuss it the worst it sounds. Simply including the card without talking about it will be the most subtle, and therefore the least rude road.

Exactly exactly exactly what I think! Cutesy poems are not the way forward. I almost did one for our 'save the date' thing, but then never got around to sending it (was only going to do it by email) and am actually very glad I didn't send it as I think it would have been rather tacky.
Thanks Maggie, you have confirmed my thoughts and I shall indeed be telling my lovely mum (and she is very lovely, and has been indispensible to me in this whole organising process but I think there are some unnecessary things being forced on us that we don't want...) that there will just be a discreet JL card included and nothing else!:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0 -
I don't think a poem, along with a gift list would be right.
It's like saying, we want you to come, and we don't really expect a gift from you, but while you're there, have a look at the gift list enclosed. Sort of contradicts itself I think.
If you have a gift list set up, that's all people need to know, as some will buy from it, some will buy something else elsewhere, some will give vouchers, some will give cash, and others just a card.
Either a poem or a gift list, but not both as I think it's cheeky.
Does that make sense, I don't mean to be rude! xxTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

Don't worry shell, you're not being rude, that's exactly what I think as well! It's just my mum who thinks we should put the poem in. I think it's unnecessary, and contradicts what we're saying. I've also discussed it with OH who agrees! So no poem for us!:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0 -
